Bee Bots

Children in Year 2 have been programming the Bee Bots to move round a course. We had to carefully measure how far they go in one step and use that to work out how to make them go round the course.

Maths with Cuisenaire rods and Numicon

Year 2 have been using the Cuisenaire rods to work on multiplication:

and Numicon!
"No, they're meant to be all the same colour!"

School fairy

Year 2 had a big surprise today when we were interrupted during handwriting practice with a special delivery from a school fairy. We have been thinking carefully about the jobs that she might be able to help us with around the school.

Planting seeds

During the last two weeks, year 2 have spent a lot of time planting, watering and observing their seeds. We have planted some beans, chives and coriander. Finally our plants have begun to grow! We have been very excited by the results.

'Grace and family' our poem

Shopping

In a Gambian shop
Colourful
Scarfs with pictures
Amazing
Crocodile and elephant prints
Soft
Smiling faces
A bright knotted head scarf
Happy
Choosing and testing
Proud father
A little girl called Grace
Excited
A present
Pleased
With her first African dres

Art and IPC

Recently we've been doing lots of art linked with our IPC topic 'Structures'. In these photos you can see us using a scraping technique to make the shapes for a cityscape. Once these painted backgrounds are dry we will add detail (doors, windows, ladders, aerials) with black felt pens. Watch this space for pictures of our finished work.

Learning about the Gauls

In preparation for our visit to the Village Gaulois we have been learning about the Gauls and the Celts. Here are some pictures of us in teams deciding which facts we think are true and which false.

IST and DST Easter activities

Today Y2 have been working with the class 1 in DST. Children from IST worked with children from DST to design a pattern for an Easter Egg. Next week we will meet again to use these designs to make a collage.

Kassim and the Greedy Dragon

Here is our storytelling:

Alec Williams visits Y2!

On Monday Alec worked with Year 2 teaching us lots of stories and sharing some very funny poems with us. He also gave us some tricky riddles to solve. We went away and tried to remember and learn the story called 'Monkey see, monkey do'. Working as a team helped us to remember all the different events in the story so we could retell it in our own words.

Sock puppets

Mr Gregg went into the Year 2 classes during wet play and saw what brilliant sock puppets all the children had been making!
